Manage chemical inventories
UQ workers must record the details of each hazardous chemical package upon arrival. This includes the date acquired, quantity and location. UQ provides access to ChemInventory and Chemwatch software to support this process.
While ChemInventory is UQ’s preferred tool, organisational units may use alternative software so long as it captures the package details, acquisition date, quantity, location and, for time-sensitive chemicals (TSC), the opening and expiry dates. Organisational units must also be able to quickly generate and share inventory data when requested, such as by a regulator.
If an organisational unit does not use ChemInventory, it must provide its inventory data to the HSW Division using the Chemwatch upload template, so the information can be added to the Chemwatch register.
Chemwatch is UQ’s enterprise system for managing Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). If a supplier-provided SDS contains information that differs from a generic Chemwatch SDS, the supplier’s SDS takes precedence.
Chemwatch
Chemwatch helps you to manage chemicals safely and stay compliant, with tools for safety data sheets, inventory control, risk assessment and labelling. Use Chemwatch to:
- find chemical safety data sheets (SDS)
- perform chemical risk assessments (to attach to a UQSafe RA)
- check or update chemical inventory details (permission required to update registers).
To request access to Chemwatch registers, email hsw@uq.edu.au
Chemwatch works best in Firefox, Edge or Chrome. Internet Explorer is no longer supported.
