Complete your health and safety induction and training

Local site induction, including being:

• shown the location of emergency equipment, exits and evacuation meeting points
• introduced to local health and safety coordinators (WHSC) and representatives (HSR), floor wardens and first aid officer.

Your supervisor, Induction Officer or HSW Coordinator/Manager will initiate the HSW onboarding checklist process via UnitTask. If they cannot access UnitTask, complete the new worker HSW onboarding checklist form (PDF, 156.92 KB).

Staff who use computer workstations:

• Computer workstation self-assessment checklist.

Within 28 days of being elected as a HSR. This training is mandatory.

Individuals organise their own training, liaising with their supervisor to advise them of time off work required to attend.

HSRs must attend a 1-day refresher training course at least once every 12 months from the date of their initial 5-day training course, and once every 12 months for their term.

There is no set timeframe for when annual refresher training must be completed, but it is important for HSRs to complete this training as soon as reasonably possible each year to ensure they maintain up-to-date information necessary to continue performing their roles.

Accredited first aid training provided by a registered training organisation (RTO) recognised by the Australian Skills Quality Authority. You can search for RTOs and their courses at the Australian Government's My Skills website.

UQ provides accredited first aid training (staff login required). The training is open to all staff, but preference for training places is given to UQ-appointed First Aid Officers.
